Senior Drafter – Civil Engineering Technologist

Lawson Engineering Ltd (LEL) has an opportunity for a Senior Drafter – Civil Engineering Technologist in our Salmon Arm, Vernon or possible remote locations. Consideration may be made for the correct candidate to work remotely or on a hybrid system.

At LEL we provide civil engineering and consulting services to provincial and local government, municipalities, and private sector clients throughout BC. LEL currently has a full-time staff of 18, including six (6) Professional Engineers, four (4) Engineers-in-Training, four (4) Applied Science Technologists, and four (4) administrative and support staff.

As a growing firm LEL expects the successful candidate will be a highly motivated, results oriented individual who is seeking opportunity for career growth. The successful candidate will have drafting experience in municipal infrastructure and land development related projects, preferably in the southern interior of British Columbia, and will possess a strong background working with municipalities, developers, and contractors.

As previously indicated, the successful candidate will work out of the Salmon Arm office however requested employment out of the Kamloops and Revelstoke Offices will be considered on an individual basis.

The roles of the successful candidate may include:

  • Linear infrastructure design including water, sanitary, storm water management, roads and earthworks using AutoCAD Civil 3D;
  • Preparing engineering drawings for municipal infrastructure and land development projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D;
  • Coordinating projects, drawings and support staff;
  • Quantity take offs and cost estimating.

Qualifications:

  • Technical Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Equivalent;
  • Professional registration with ASTTBC or the ability to register.

Demonstrated Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in design and drafting of municipal infrastructure and private development projects utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D;
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (word and excel);
  • Understanding of municipal infrastructure design principals and best practices including MMCD standards and specifications;

Value Added Skills

  • MMCD Certified Contract Administrator (CAA) Certificate;
  • Water and sanitary system mechanical drafting experience;
  • IT experience as it relates to engineering design software;

Intermediate/Senior Civil Engineer

Lawson Engineering Ltd (LEL) has an opportunity for an Intermediate or Senior Civil Engineer in our Salmon Arm, Revelstoke, or Vernon office.

At LEL we provide civil engineering and consulting services to provincial and local government, municipalities, and private sector clients throughout BC. LEL currently has a full-time staff of 18, including six (6) Professional Engineers, four (4) Engineers-in-Training, four (4) Applied Science Technologists, and three (4) administrative and support staff.

As a growing firm, LEL expects the successful candidate will be a highly motivated, results-oriented individual who is seeking opportunities for career growth. The successful candidate will have experience as a project manager and engineer of record on municipal infrastructure and land development-related projects, throughout British Columbia, and will possess a strong background working with municipalities, developers, and contractors.

The roles of the successful candidate may include:

  • Linear infrastructure design including water, sanitary, stormwater management, roads, and earthworks;
  • Design of municipal infrastructure including PRV, booster station, reservoir, lift station, water treatment;
  • Building and developing client relationships;
  • Feasibility Studies;
  • Site Grading and Roadway design;
  • Contract Administration;
  • Project Management;
  • Proposal Development;
  • Technical Project Review;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in civil engineering from an accredited University;
  • Professional Engineer designation with a minimum 10+ years of experience in civil/municipal consulting, including design of municipal infrastructure;

Demonstrated Experience and Skills:

  • Experience as Engineer of Record on municipal infrastructure projects
  • Experience managing a team of support staff and managing projects independently
  • Understanding of municipal infrastructure design principles and best practices;
  • Experience with reservoir, PRV, booster station, lift stations, and related municipal infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and professionally with municipal clients, developers, contractors, and regulatory entities;
  • Working knowledge and experience with the administration of MMCD contracts;
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and teamwork skills;

Value Added Skills:

  • MMCD Certified Contract Administrator (CAA) Certificate;
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Accreditation.

LEL offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual. We offer a competitive compensation package that includes additional vacation and company holidays, extended medical and dental, RRSP’s, and the opportunity for profit-sharing bonuses. The salary range is expected to be between $50 and $75 per hour and is dependent on the successful candidate’s experience.

Civil Engineering Technologist

Lawson Engineering Ltd (LEL) has an opportunity for a Civil Engineering Technologist in our Salmon Arm office, but will also consider remote opportunities. At LEL we provide civil engineering and consulting services to provincial and local government, municipalities, and private sector clients throughout BC. LEL currently has a full-time staff of 18, including six (6) Professional Engineers, four (4) Engineers-in-Training, four (4) Applied Science Technologists, and four (4) administrative and support staff.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the design and drafting of municipal infrastructure and private development projects utilizing Civil 3D;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (word and excel);
  • Understanding of municipal infrastructure design principles and best practices including MMCD standards and specifications;
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and professionally with developers, clients, contractors, and regulatory entities;
  • Experience working with contractors in a civil construction environment;
  • The ability to communicate both verbally and electronically with clients, contractors, and regulatory body staff in a clear, concise, and thoughtful manner;

  • Water and sanitary system mechanical drafting experience;
  • Understanding of the principals and use of total station survey equipment.
