LEL was founded in 2015 by Blake Lawson, P. Eng after years of experience working as a civil engineering technologist and a professional engineer with larger firms.

Blake has been in the civil engineering industry since 2006 and has focused on the design and construction of municipal infrastructure upgrades and residential/commercial development with an emphasis on linear infrastructure design, modeling and analysis. Blake is a member of EGBC (BC) and APEGA (Alberta) as a professional engineer. Blake has a vast array of experience with all aspects of project management and contract administration. Blake leads our Salmon Arm office and is a Sr. Project Manager and Principal of Lawson Engineering Ltd.

Stuart Purves, P.Eng

Municipal Engineer / Principal

Kamloops

Stuart is registered as a Professional Engineer in BC and leads Lawson Engineering Ltd. Kamloops office. Stuart holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering as well as Civil Engineering Technology. Stuart has provided consulting services in the central and southern interior of BC since 2012 and has four (4) years of experience in municipal construction giving him a unique understanding of construction best practices. Stuarts experience has been predominantly with municipal/provincial government and First Nations clients. Stuart prides himself on communication, client relationships, project management efficiency and meeting client objectives.

Alistair Waters, AScT, CCA

Civil Technologist / Sr. Inspector / Principal

Alistair is a registered Civil Engineering Technologist with ASTTBC, a certified contract administrator with Lawson Engineering Ltd. and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of British Columbia. Alistair leads our Revelstoke office and his current area of focus is in urban/rural land development and municipal infrastructure projects throughout BC. Alistair has been with Lawson Engineering Ltd. since inception as a project manager, civil designer and drafter, surveyor, lead contract administrator, and lead construction inspector.

Jessica Johnson, EIT

Junior Engineer

Jessica holds a civil engineering technology diploma from Camosun College and is a graduate of the UBC Okanagan Applied Science Program. Jessica is registered as an Engineer in Training in British Columbia and is working efficiently with Lawson Engineering Ltd. as a Project Engineer since 2017. Jessica’s current area of interest is in municipal infrastructure improvement projects and private residential and commercial land development.   Jessica has excelled in the development of stormwater management, linear infrastructure modeling and reporting, contract administration, and overall project management.

Marc Biggelaar, AScT

Sr. Civil Design Technologist

Marc is a senior design and drafting technician and assists in project implementation and contract administration services. Marc has been in the civil engineering industry since 2001 and has worked as a surveyor, a design and drafting technologist in transportation, municipal, land development, and environmental projects. Marc is a graduate of the NAIT Civil Engineering Technology Program in 2002 and is currently registered as a Civil Engineering Technologist with ASTTBC.

David Pilling, EIT

Junior Engineer / Survey Lead

David is an experienced survey party chief and holds an undergraduate degree in Geomatics Engineering. David has 7 years of experience working under a BC Land Surveyor and joined Lawson Engineering Ltd. in order to achieve his P.Eng designation and switch gears to working in the municipal engineering sector. Dave has extensive experience performing both topographic and record surveys as well as with data input and base plan preparation utilizing geomatics principles and methods. David has progressed quickly in his transition to municipal and land development engineering.

Steven Hiles, EIT

Steven has been with Lawson Engineering Ltd. Since May 2019 and is a graduate from the UBC Okanagan Applied Science Program and is a registered Engineer in Training in British Columbia. Steven is highly motivated and assists in all project deliverables from surveying, drafting/design, and resident inspections.

Paola Monsalve Perez, AScT

Paola is a civil technologist and assists in all aspects of project implementation and design analysis. Paola has been in the civil engineering industry since 2016 working primarily in the municipal and land development group at larger firms throughout BC and Alberta. Paola is a graduate of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Civil Engineering Technology Program in 2015 and is currently registered as a Civil Engineering Technologist with ASTTBC.

Dave Sonmor, P.Eng – Project Engineer

Dave is registered as a professional engineer in BC and holds both a Bachelor of applied science degree from UBC Okanagan, and a diploma in civil engineering technology from Okanagan College.  Dave has experience in both consulting and contracting.  As a contractor in Alberta, Dave has managed projects ranging from the install of new bridge sized culverts to full scale landfill rehabilitation.  Dave has priced projects up to 110 million dollars in value and has managed projects up to 10 million dollars in value.  As a consulting engineer, Dave has managed projects ranging from 2 lot subdivisions up to 120 lot subdivisions, guiding development through city, regional district, MoT, ALS and MoE approval procedures.

Jordan is a recent graduate as a Civil Engineering Technologist from Okanagan College in Kelowna.  Jordan’s main area of work at Lawson is topographic, as-built and layout surveys.

Paul Hansen – Sr. Design Technologist

Paul is a senior design and drafting technician and assists in all aspects of project implementation and design analysis.  Paul has been in the civil engineering industry since 1993 working primarily in municipal and land development with various engineering firms in BC and Alberta.  His regular duties include the preparation of design drawings for land development.  Experienced with community enhancement and municipal engineering projects including water, wastewater and storm water management.  Paul is a graduate of Engineering Graphics & Design at the College of New Caledonia.  Paul assists in both preliminary and detailed design and provides project design and analysis, supporting project managers as required.
