LEL was founded in 2015 by Blake Lawson, P. Eng after years of experience working as a civil engineering technologist and a professional engineer with larger firms.

Blake Lawson, P.Eng, Principal

Blake Lawson, P.Eng is a member of EGBC (British Columbia) and APEGA (Alberta) as a Professional Engineer. Blake’s current focus is on municipal and land development engineering projects for private and public-sector clients throughout BC. Blake’s knowledge stems from several years of experience working as a civil engineer with a number of municipalities, land developers and government organizations throughout BC.

Stuart Purves, P.Eng, Principal

Civil Engineer

Stuart Purves is a civil engineer registered with EGBC (British Columbia). His work experience includes 4 years of civil construction and 10 years of Engineering experience on a variety of municipal infrastructure, Land Development, Provincial Supportive Housing and First Nations Projects. His experience includes design, contract administration and project management.  As Project Engineer, Stuart has gained a wide range of experience on projects ranging from $500,000.00 to $5,000,000.00 in construction for public and private sector clients.

Alistair Waters, AScT, CCA, Principal

Project Manager

Alistair is a registered Civil Engineering Technologist with ASTTBC, an MMCD certified contract administrator with Lawson Engineering Ltd. and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of British Columbia. Alistair’s hands-on and construction experience combined with his education has helped him excel through to the civil engineering sector. Alistair’s current focus is on urban/rural land development and municipal infrastructure.

Jessica Johnson, P. Eng

Civil Engineer

Salmon Arm / Vernon

Jessica holds a civil engineering technology diploma from Camosun College and is a graduate of the UBC Okanagan Applied Science Program. Jessica is registered as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia and is working efficiently with Lawson Engineering Ltd. as a Project Engineer since 2017. Jessica’s current area of interest is in municipal infrastructure improvement projects and private residential and commercial land development.   Jessica has excelled in the development of stormwater management, linear infrastructure modeling and reporting, contract administration, and overall project management.

David Pilling, E.I.T.

Junior Engineer

David is an experienced survey party chief and holds an undergraduate degree in Geomatics Engineering. David has 7 years of experience working under a BC Land Surveyor and joined Lawson Engineering Ltd. in order to achieve his P.Eng designation and switch gears to working in the municipal engineering sector. Dave has extensive experience performing both topographic and record surveys as well as with data input and base plan preparation utilizing geomatics principles and methods. David has progressed quickly in his transition to municipal and land development engineering.

 

 

Steven Hiles, E.I.T.

Junior Engineer

Kelowna

Steven is a Junior Engineer with Lawson Engineering since 2019 and is a registered Engineer in Training in British Columbia.  With a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of British Columbia, Steven is currently working toward his Professional Engineering license. Steven has extensive experience in both public infrastructure and private land development projects in various municipalities across the province. Steven is proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D software and various surveying equipment and has thorough involvement in all phases of engineering projects from initial inception to final inspections.

Paola Monsalve Perez, AScT

Civil Technologist

Kamloops

Paola is a civil technologist and assists in all aspects of project implementation and design analysis. Paola has been in the civil engineering industry since 2017 working primarily in the municipal and land development groups at firms throughout BC and construction in Alberta. Paola is a graduate of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Civil Engineering Technology Program in 2017 and is currently registered as a Civil Engineering Technologist with ASTTBC.

Dave Sonmor, P.Eng

Civil Engineer

Salmon Arm, BC

Dave is registered as a professional engineer in BC and holds both a Bachelor of applied science degree from UBC Okanagan, and a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from Okanagan College. Dave has experience in both consulting and contracting. As a contractor in Alberta, Dave has managed projects ranging from the install of new bridge sized culverts to full scale landfill rehabilitation. Dave has priced projects up to 110 million dollars in value and has managed projects up to 10 million dollars in value.  As a consulting engineer, Dave has managed projects ranging from 2 lot subdivisions up to 120 lot subdivisions, guiding development through city, regional district, MoT, ALC and MoE approval procedures. In addition to his consulting and construction project management experience, Dave is a B ticketed welder with experience in manufacturing and mining industries.

Jordan Wapple, AScT

Surveyor / Civil Technologist

Jordan is a Civil Engineering Technologist graduate from Okanagan College and has been with Lawson Engineering since April 2021. Jordan’s current area of focus is surveying and construction inspections of municipal, and land development projects for private, and public sector clients. Jordan also shows great interest in civil design plans with the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D and other software.

 

Marc Bigglaar, AScT.

Civil Technologist

Salmon Arm

Marc is a senior design and drafting technologist and assists in project implementation and contract administration services. Marc has been in the Civil Engineering Industry since 2001 and has worked as a surveyor, a design and drafting technologist in Transportation, Municipal, Land Development and Environmental Projects. Marc was previously the CAD Manager in the infrastructure group at WSP Canada Inc. Marc is a graduate of the NAIT Civil Engineering Technology Program in 2002. Marc is an AScT with ASTTBC.

 

Jaed Bowles

Junior Civil Engineer Technologist

Jaed Bowles is a Junior Civil Engineer Technologist working at Lawson Engineering under the direction of Blake Lawson, P.Eng.. As a recent graduate from Okanagan College’s Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma Program, his work at Lawson Engineering will allow him to develop skills learned through his schooling and be introduced to a variety of projects.

Josh Niewenhuizen, E.I.T.

Josh is a Junior Engineer and has been with Lawson Engineering since 2021. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from UBC and is registered as an Engineer in Training in British Columbia.  He is passionate about municipal development and aids with drafting, design, surveying and on-site inspections.  Josh is capable, ambitious focused on career growth.

Edu Torres-Don, EIT

Junior Engineer

Revelstoke, BC

Edu holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia. Edu is a Junior Engineer and a registered EIT in British Columbia. Edu has four years of civil and structural consulting experience in Melbourne, and has been with Lawson Engineering Ltd. since 2022. Edu’s main experience is in residential and commercial sectors, with a large focus in the design of stormwater management systems, including on-site detention and water quality treatment systems. Edu has training in AutoCAD Civil 3D and has extensive experience conducting site visits and construction inspections.
